How do I know which dietitian is best for me?

Do we offer concession prices?

  • Concession prices are available to Full Time Students and Pension Card holders for all individual consultations (no concession prices available on package offers)

Is there parking available?

  • Paid parking is available in Newtown Central building (access via Newman St). Street parking is available in back streets. If you not familiar with Newtown, we recommended you allow plenty of time to park.
  • Our clinic is also easily accessible by public transport, located close to Newtown train station and bus stops.

Where are we located?

  • We are located at: Suite 2, Level 1, 33 King St, Newtown 2042
  • Our clinic is located near Newtown train station, opposite FoodWorks and Fitness First.
  • The entrance on King St is between the computer shop and the chemist. Follow the corridor and take the stairs to the first floor.

Can you use public transport to get to the clinic?

  • Our clinic is easily accessible by public transport, located close to Newtown train station and bus stops.

What's the difference between a Dietitian and a Nutritionist?

  • Dietitians have undergone supervised and assessed professional practice throughout the accredited University Degree and meet criteria for accreditation with the Dietitians Association of Australia. Only dietitians are qualified to provide medical nutritional advice or clinical nutrition consultations in either an individual or group setting.
  • While a Nutritionist may have also completed University studies, their main role is to provide information and advice about nutrition and healthy food choices for a generally healthy person. Dietitians are also technically Nutritionists.

Can I claim my consult with Medicare?

  • If you have a Medicare referral (GP Management Plan and Team Care Arrangements) from your GP you may be eligible for a rebate from Medicare for part of your consultation cost. However we do NOT Bulk Bill so you will be required to pay the consultation cost before receiving your rebate

What hours is the clinic open?

  • Newtown Nutrition reception team are available to answer your phone calls 9:00am – 5:30pm Mon-Fri
  • Our Newtown office is open variable hours Mon-Sat when there is a dietitian in clinic. You can view our usual dietitian office hours in their individual profiles, or if you are thinking of dropping by, please give our reception staff a call to discuss the best time to do so.

Do we sell nutritional supplements to the public?

  • We have a limited range of supplements available for our clients to purchase as part of their nutritional care.
  • Unfortunately we are not able to sell nutritional supplements to the public.

How do I prepare for a Skype consult?

  • Great thinking! You will get the most out of your Skype consultation if you are well prepared. We have some tips on preparing for your Skype consult here

Do we only use Skype for online consults or can we FaceTime or others?

  • We currently use Skype for our online consultations. Our dietitians do not have access to Apple devices in our office so we are not able to FaceTime.
  • We are looking into new directions for our online consultations so let us know if you want to be a guinea pig for new software options! We’re also happy to take recommendations if you know of something better. Drop us a line

Can I claim with a Private Health Insurer?

  • All our dietitians are recognised by Private Health Funds
  • Please check with your fund to see if your level of cover offers a rebate for dietitians

How long is a consultation?

  • An initial consultation is 60mins, or some complex conditions are 75mins (eg IBS, Food Intolerance)
  • We also offer an extended consultation (90mins) to allow time for couples, families or complicated health issues. Discuss this with reception on booking
  • Follow-up consultations are 30mins unless otherwise advised (longer consultations are negotiable – chat with your dietitian)

Do you offer discounted consult packages?

Yes! We offer a range of discounted consultation packages. See our pricing page for more details

Do you have any testimonials?

  • We often receive wonderful feedback about our services from clients. However, Accredited Dietitians are prohibited from displaying written testimonials or reviews (considered as a misleading form of advertising), according to the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law. Instead we encourage you to share your positive experiences with your family and friends. Thank you.

How long has Newtown Nutrition been in business?

  • Newtown Nutrition was established by Liz Beavis APD in 2000, up the road in a poky little office. We have grown quite a bit since then!

Do you have a cancellation fee?

  • When you make an appointment your dietitian reserves that time just for you so she can help you achieve your health goals. If you are not able to keep your appointment time please call us to reschedule. We request that you give us at least 24 hours notice so that we can make that time available to someone else to help them on their health journey. Failure to cancel without 24 hours notice may incur a cancellation fee of $40 to cover our time.

Can I get a refund if I purchase a package and are not able to use all the consults?

  • There is no time limit on the package so most people find that they like to delay their package consults if they get busy. Or if you move out of the area you can switch to Skype consults!
  • However if none of these options suit, we can organise a refund for any unused consultations (a small admin fee may apply)

Do you offer consults for families?

  • Yes! Our dietitians can conduct a couple or family consultation. To allow time to address multiple family members you will need to book an Extended Initial Consultation (90mins)

Do you have wheelchair access?

  • Our office is located up a flight of stairs, and unfortunately we do not have lift access for wheelchairs or prams.
  • If mobility is an issue we recommend booking a Skype consultation so you can consult with our dietitians from the comfort of your own home

Are all Newtown Nutrition Dietitians qualified?

  • Yes! All of our dietitians are University qualified in Accredited courses. All of our dietitians are accredited (APD – Accredited Practising Dietitian) with our national professional body, the Dietitians Association of Australia

Can I see a dietitian for something that isn't in the list?

  • Yes! Our dietitians can help with a range of health issues, and are not limited to the list on our website. Please contact our reception team who can refer you to the most suitable dietitian

How much is a consultation?

  • Consultation prices vary for each of our dietitians. If you know which dietitian you would like to see you can see the pricing options in the Online booking feature. Or you may prefer to call our Reception team for more details
